Teaching students to become leaders is more then just giving them step by step directions to do something.
It has to start from within that student. The student has to want to take on responsibility in order for that student to achieve. I start every year with a pep talk to my middle school students. This year I started with this video.

According the the Kid President, you have to get up and make something happen. This was the pep talk for this year...if you want something to happen, go and make it happen!! We aim for positive change in our classroom that will effect ANYONE who walks in. This involves leadership! Students must take a step forward and lead others to do the right thing. The right thing might be to pick up the paper on the floor, not just walk by it because it wasn't yours. The right thing might be to include someone on the playground or in a group discussion in class who normally is on the outside. The right thing might be telling an adult of a conversation you overheard that made you feel uncomfortable. The right thing is to do your homework. Whatever the right thing maybe, remember, change starts with you!!!
