Now a days if you don't know the answer to something, you look it up!! I am guilty of that several times a day. The search engine I use the most is Google. I even tell my student, if you don't know something "Google it". Today I will share with you how to safely use Google for all age groups. It is important to know these tricks as teachers, parents, and even students so they do not come across something that could get them in trouble.
Step one is bring up the Google browser page. You will notice a sprocket in the top right hand corner. Click on the sprocket. If you don't notice a sprocket. Go to the bottom right hand corner and find the word "settings". This works as the same feature.
Step two. Once the sprocket is clicked or settings is clicked, this little menu will appear. It will have a list of options for you to choose. The one I want you to click on is "Safe Search".
Step three. Once you have clicked on "Safe Search" you can close the menu. Safe Search will be on and will filter out explicit material from any of your Google searches.
The only down side is that it can just as easily be clicked off. So check your Google before your students get on the browser. Just to be on the safe side.
Another thing I am going to add to day is to narrow your search even more. This will not only eliminate the explicit content, but can narrow and change your search for younger students to make it easier for them to find age appropriate material on their own.
