I love using videos in class. Students really seem to connect to the visual aspect of a video. A picture is worth a 1000 words, imagine how many words a video is worth! The down side to using videos in the classroom is that they can sometimes be filled with adds that are not only distracting, but can sometimes be inappropriate for students. I have researched two ways you can use a Youtube video and not have to worry about adds interrupting your lesson.
The first one I researched is SafeShare.tv . This site is easy to use and clearly removes ALL inappropriate and distracting material from the Youtube video. Simply find the Youtube video you would like to use in your lesson, copy the URL at the top of the page, open SafeShare.tv in a new page, paste in the URL where it asks you to, and click the button that says generate safe link. Presto!! It is really that easy! I tried it on several different Youtube videos and every time it eliminated the ads.
The second way I found to successfully remove adds before sharing a Youtube video is by embedding the video to your website or another site like Blendspace. This will eliminate the ads and banners from the Youtube video before you share it with your class. I like using Blendspace especially if I am using more than one clip. Not only does it eliminate the ads, the videos are already cued up exactly when I need them. Below you will find a short video on how to use Blendspace that will help you to eliminate ads in your Youtube videos!!
Enjoy!!
