Ok. So here is an alternative to the big name search engine sites. There are several out there and I will provide you a short list at the bottom of this blog, but I wanted to walk you through one that I found to be easy to use for middle school students. Gogooligans.com is an advanced safe search for kids and teens. It is a educational and academic supported search engine that is easy to use!
Step one: Type in the address. Make sure you spell it correctly ( its a bit odd).
Step two: Once you have the search engine up, there is a white search bar. Type in what you are looking for. I typed in several different topics that I have gone over or will be going over in my middle school classes and was over all pleasantly pleased at the results.
This site is powered by Google, so it is another way to filter out the unwanted inappropriate stuff for our students. The other great thing about it being supported by Google is that it is a trustworthy search engine. I have been working with students to help them identify trustworthy sites to gather information and not just using the first site they see. It is hard to break a bad habit!!
Here are some other alternatives to the big name search engines that you can try out!
Zoodles- ages 3 and up
Kidzo- ages 4 and up
Kidzui- ages 5 and up
Kidsclick!- ages 8 and up
Sweet Search- ages 13 and up
Google Scholar- ages 15 and up
